Behind the Bench #2: Heirloom Diamond Redesign — Love Passed Down
Sara Gallo -
One of the greatest joys of my work is connecting with clients on a personal level as we bring something magical to life together. Caitlin and Brian were such a warm and wonderful couple. I couldn’t help but keep telling them how cool they were (probably a little embarrassing on my part, but true!). Designing a wedding set for them using heirloom diamonds was a thrill, so please read on to learn about the process and these fantastic clients.
A Legacy of Love
When Caitlin and Brian first sat down with me, they brought treasures that held generations of devotion: her mother’s and grandmother’s engagement and wedding rings. Their dream was to create something new—rings that would honor the love stories that came before them while marking the start of their own.
What came to life was more than just jewelry. It became a deeply personal tribute to Caitlin’s family and a reflection of the thoughtful, intentional partnership she and Brian share.
Breathing New Life Into Treasured Pieces
We began by carefully deconstructing the heirloom rings, preserving their most meaningful elements. Every diamond carried history, and together we reimagined them into three new creations: Caitlin’s engagement ring, her wedding band, and Brian’s wedding band.
Brian wanted to give Caitlin a special diamond as his addition to this evolving and meaningful set. He chose a round brilliant-cut diamond that mirrored Caitlin’s grandmother’s diamond by being set to the side of her mother’s oval diamond in the center of her ring. That single stone became a bridge between past and present—his love joining the lineage of women who came before.

A Ring With Direction
Brian’s wedding band carried a symbol all its own. Clean, modern, and understated, it features four diamonds placed at North, South, East, and West—a compass of sorts. Subtle yet powerful, it’s a reminder of guidance, direction, and the grounding force of their love as they step into this next chapter.
The Beauty of Designing Together
There’s something magical about designing wedding rings together. It’s a chance to blend your unique histories with your personal style. You then get to wear and enjoy these symbols of love for a lifetime! With Caitlin and Brian, every design choice was intentional, which made every detail in their rings meaningful.
Being entrusted with such precious materials and such a heartfelt vision was a true honor.
Carrying Stories Forward
Heirloom transformations are always one-of-a-kind and represent the wearer in an extraordinary way. Caitlin and Brian’s rings now tell a story that began long before them and will continue long after.
